This is a fabulous drink to offer your guests after a big Italian meal. It is a huge wake-up call to your body after feasting on all that mozzarella and ricotta, yet it is light enough to add to the end of the meal.
My son turned me on to this last night. I had never really heard of it. But it was so good I just had my second one today!! This was better than an afternoon nap. The Grand Marnier is an orange-flavored liqueur and it goes great with gelato.
INGREDIENTS FOR TWO AFFOGATOS:
8 ounces boiling water
4 heaping Tablespoons of espresso coffee.
Grand Marnier
Vanilla Gelato for each cup
Coffee bean (for decor) on the top
RECIPE:
I used my French Press.
Add espresso to the boiling water.
Push down the plunger and let coffee sit for a couple of minutes.
Pour the espresso into two cups.
To each cup add a big spoon of gelato and then drizzle the Grand Marnier on top.
Last night my son made some mini Almond Bundt cakes and we had it with Gelato and the Affogato on the side.
