These caramelized apple dumplings are so delicious. I remembered I had made them a couple of years ago and how good they were. I decided to make them for dessert for my son tonight. Easy to make and easy to eat. I stopped at 7-11 and picked up a can of Mountain Dew ($1.38) so I didn't have to buy a 2-liter bottle.
INGREDIENTS:
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
2 (10 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (I was only able to get one small can and one regular can of dough so I cut each apple into 6 pieces.)
3/4 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Mountain Dew
1 teaspoon of vanilla
RECIPE:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or a #10 Cast Iron Skillet.
Core and cut each apple into 8 wedges, then set aside.
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the smallest end.
After wrapping dough around each apple slice, place the dumplings in the baking dish.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar. Continue cooking until it is well blended and thickens, stirring constantly. Then stir in the cinnamon and vanilla. Pour mixture over the apple dumplings.
Pour Mountain Dew(TM) around the dumplings. (Not on top of them!)
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.
Served with Apple Pie Gelato
