In the 1970s, Jack Crain opened a travel agency/tile business in an ornate enamel tiled building on Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce.
Jack Crane
He had a love for peacocks and purchased a few to roam the walled yard behind his business. Through the years, the flock has grown and the area has been named Fort Pierce's Peacock Arts District. And, although Jack died at age 90 in 2016, his peacocks live on. They are all over the area and traffic stops for the peacocks, as they cross the streets, sometimes stopping to preen a little bit in the middle of the crossing.
